Academic Background
Arul Ramasamy is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Foot and Ankle surgery. He qualified from Cambridge University in 2000. After junior doctor posts, he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to complete Officer Training and then undertook 2 years as a Regimental Medical Officer to the Light Infantry. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Following basic surgical training, Mr Ramasamy completed a PhD in foot and ankle trauma within the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London. He then undertook further orthopaedic training in Birmingham working at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (University Hospital Birmingham) and the world-renowned Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. Having completed his orthopaedic training, he subsequently undertook specialist foot and ankle fellowships at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Oxford and the Fortius Clinic London. He has been an Orthopaedic Consultant on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council since 2017. Mr Ramasamy continues to serve in the Armed Forces and holds a consultant appointment at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Trust. In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Ramasamy continues to have a strong academic profile, publishing over 50 peer reviewed academic papers and book chapters. He is a Senior Lecturer within the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London and currently supervises numerous PhD students. He has won numerous prizes and grants related to his research and was recently awarded the highly prestigious ABC (American-British-Canadian) Travelling Fellowship by the British Orthopaedic Association to present his work in North America. He is also an Associate Editor for the Bone and Joint Journal.
