Mr Harry Orlans is a highly accomplished consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon with a strong academic foundation and a commitment to clinical excellence.
He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First Class degree in Physiology & Neuroscience, before completing his clinical studies at the University of Oxford, qualifying in 2010 with Distinction. He subsequently underwent rigorous specialist training in Ophthalmology in London, before completing prestigious sub-specialty fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery at St Thomas' and Moorfields Eye Hospitals in London. He holds a DPhil (PhD) from the University of Oxford, where his research focused on pioneering treatments for inherited retinal disorders.
Mr Orlans has been recognised for his clinical and academic work by the award of numerous prestigious prizes and grants, including the Crombie Medal and the AMO Prize from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Ruskell Medal from the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, the Founder's Cup from the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress, and research funding with a total value of over 1.5 million pounds from the Medical Research Council, UK.
Mr Orlans is an active contributor to clinical research and training within the fields of vitreoretinal surgery, ophthalmology and retinal science. He has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and currently serves as tutor for Ophthalmology at the University of Cambridge. He co-chairs the "VR in a Day" national vitreoretinal conference, last held in London in March 2025.
