Mr James Webb is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based in the North East, practicing at Tees Valley Hospital in Middlesbrough. He is a leading specialist in hip and knee replacement, with a particular focus on pioneering robotic technology.

Mr Webb carries out the highest numbers of joint replacement procedures in the north east of England, and some of the highest in the UK, performing over 800 procedures annually. He was the first surgeon in the North East of England to introduce Mako® Robotic-Arm Assisted hip and knee replacements and has now completed over 1,000 robotic procedures.

Because of his experience in this area, he regularly hosts visiting surgeons from the UK and worldwide to observe in theatre, and also lectures and trains others both nationally and internationally on robotic hip and knee replacement.

His main clinical interests include:

• Hip Surgery: Primary and complex revision (re-do) hip replacements.
• Knee Surgery: Total and partial knee replacements, including robotic-assisted techniques.
• Keyhole Surgery: Knee arthroscopy for soft tissue and sports-related injuries.
• Enhanced Recovery: Using advanced techniques to ensure shorter hospital stays and quicker returns to normal function.

Mr Webb graduated from Newcastle University in 1999 and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the North East. He further honed his skills during a prestigious international fellowship in Reconstructive Hip Surgery in Perth, Western Australia, before being appointed as a Consultant at James Cook Hospital in 2010.

He now solely focuses his time on hip and knee procedures with operating lists at least weekly at Tees Valley Hospital
