He graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School in 1993 and completed his early ophthalmology training by 1999. He then undertook a two-year research fellowship in diabetic retinopathy at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of London, earning a Doctorate in Medicine (MD) for his work.
In 2002, Mr Patel joined the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital for advanced ophthalmic and subspecialty training, gaining full accreditation in 2009. He went on to complete further specialist training in both medical and surgical retina at Moorfields and the Royal Perth Hospital in Australia.
