Mr John Hardman is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Torquay specialising in hand and wrist surgery.

Mr Hardman is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the hand and wrist. His primary NHS work is at Torbay hospital, where he has led and developed the hand service since his appointment in 2022. He has a further role managing complex trauma with the hand team at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, alongside whom he has worked to expand access to multidisciplinary care for patients in the South Devon region.
Mr Hardman completed his surgical training in London on the North West Thames orthopaedic rotation, based at Imperial College Hospitals. He undertook sub-specialist fellowship training in the world-renowned units at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. In 2025 he undertook a travelling observership to Dandenong Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
He has completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Hand Surgery with the British Society for Surgeons of the Hand (BSSH) and The University of Manchester, and continues to train other specialist surgeons as a tutor on the programme.
Mr Hardman is a member of the BSSH and remains current and up-to-date with developments in hand and wrist surgery. He has published an extensive body of research and educational work in his field, including text book chapters, peer-reviewed academic papers and international conference presentations.
