Mr Richard Knight is a fellowship-trained Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon who is passionate about helping patients restore comfort, confidence and function in their hands and wrists.

Mr Knight has been a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust since 2017. He qualified in Medicine (MBChB) from the University of Birmingham in 2003 and completed his early surgical training in the West Midlands, gaining broad surgical experience including Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery. His specialist Orthopaedic training was also undertaken in the West Midlands, including posts at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

After being awarded his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England(FRCS Orth) and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), Mr Knight undertook advanced subspecialty fellowship training in Hand and Wrist Surgery at the world renowned hand centres in Birmingham and Wrightington, working under the tutelage of some of the worlds leading hand surgeons.

In his clinical practice, Mr Knight  believes strongly in clear explanations and shared decision-making, ensuring that patients feel fully informed and supported when choosing the treatment option that is right for them. He has particular expertise in treating Dupuytren’s disease, thumb base arthritis and wrist fractures, and takes pride in delivering practical, effective care tailored to each individual.

He is committed to training and educating future surgeons and regularly supervises registrars, examines trainees and teaches on national examination courses. He has also published research and presented his work at national and international meetings.

Outside of medicine, Mr Knight enjoys an active lifestyle along with his wife and young family and has a long-standing love of sport, particularly tennis, cricket, football and rugby. These days, most of his spare time is spent supporting his son’s sporting activities and coaching local teams.
