Mr Sam Dutta is a highly regarded specialist in advanced keyhole surgery, specialising in hernia surgery along with organ transplantation at his NHS base. Sam has a long-established practice of incisional hernia surgery which he performs both laparoscopically and by open operation.

Laparoscopic hernia surgery has been Sam's passion for the last 20 years, having done many such operations both in NHS and private hospitals. Over the years, Sam has developed a reputation for fixing hernias that have failed several repairs in the past and many patients choose to see him for this expertise.

Mr Dutta graduated in 1990 from the University of Calcutta and then with two Post graduate degrees in General Surgery in 1995. Sam developed a specialist interest in solid organ transplantation and underwent training at four major transplant centres in the UK - Cambridge, Birmingham, Nottingham and Plymouth. He completed UK Specialist Surgical Training (CCST) and Higher Surgical Training with FRCS General Surgery in 2006.

Mr Dutta became a Consultant in Portsmouth in 2008 where he established and led the laparoscopic kidney donation service for 8 years. While in Portsmouth, Sam was the lead surgeon for living donor kidney transplantation and led the incompatible blood group kidney transplant service. Sam has been active in the media in the promotion of organ donation and living kidney donation.

In 2016 Mr Dutta relocated to Nottingham and joined the team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust as a consultant transplant and laparoscopic general surgeon and laparoscopic live donor surgeon.

Mr Dutta has a keen interest in teaching and regularly undertakes formal and informal training for colleagues and medical students in laparoscopic surgical techniques.

In his spare time Sam is a highly regarded amateur artist.
