Mr Steve Hornby works as a Consultant Upper GI and Robotic Surgeon at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is the Clinical Lead for Upper GI Surgery and an Honorary Tutor at Bristol University Medical School.
He is an experienced surgeon with clinical interests including; Oesophago-gastric cancer, Robotic surgery, Benign Upper GI conditions including the management of gallstone disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux and hiatal hernias, abdominal wall hernia surgery, and abdominal wall reconstruction.

He is Preceptor for Cambridge Medical Robotics (CMR) providing guidance and support internationally for surgeons learning robotic surgery on the CMR Versius System.
Originally from Liverpool, he qualified from Nottingham Medical School.
After a Trauma Surgery elective in Houston Texas, he completed his basic surgical training in Lincoln, worked as a Simulation and Clinical Skills Fellow in Nottingham, and completed higher surgical training in the Southwest of England.
He undertook an Advanced Upper GI Fellowship at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and a visiting Upper GI observership at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong.
He was an early collaborator in the UK Trainee led research movement as a cofounder of SPARCS (Severn and Peninsula Audit and Research Collaborative for Surgeons) and was awarded a Doctorate from the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, for his research into oesophagogastric cancer screening.
He is a keen surgical educator, having designed and convened several courses in technical and non-technical surgical skills.
He has served as both President and Director of Education of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) and in 2013 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He is currently the South West council member of the Association of UGI Surgeons (AUGIS).
Steve is married to the multi-talented Clare and they have 2 young sons.
In his spare time, he enjoys walking, woodwork, learning to cook, and has recently taken up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
