Mr Butt graduated with honours from the University of Birmingham in 2004. His specialist orthopaedic training took place in the North West culminating in being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2012. His NHS practice is based at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, which is a regional major trauma centre and one of the leading hospital trusts in the UK.
Mr Butt is fellowship trained (UK and Internationally) in the sub-specialty of shoulder, elbow and upper limb surgery. His UK fellowship training took place in the renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and Stockport Shoulder unit. In 2015, Mr Butt was awarded the coveted ESSKA (European) travelling fellowship, which he undertook with the internationally recognised Pietro Randelli in Milan, Italy. In 2018 Mr Butt undertook his competitively awarded Bristish Shoulder and Elbow Society (BESS) travelling fellowship to the world renowned Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA to exchange ideas and work with Shawn O'Driscoll and colleagues. Mr Butt has an extensive clinical and scientific research portfolio.
His work on muscle regeneration following rotator cuff repair undertaken in collaboration with Wrightington and the University of Manchester has won national and international awards and has been published in the British Bone and Joint Journal. Mr Butt has written a number of published authoritative articles and book chapters on the management of shoulder, elbow and orthopaedic conditions.
