She has a keen interest in teaching and training, and organises annual teaching/training seminars for ophthalmologists in the South West – including presentations by international experts in various aspects of ophthalmology.

Ms von Lany has in the past made regular visits to the St John Eye Hospital, Jerusalem: a charitable foundation of the Order of St John providing specialist training to ophthalmic surgeons.
