Mr Halahakoon is in the specialist registry of the General Medical Council (GMC). After qualifying (MBBS) in 2000 from the University of Colombo, he received a Master of Surgery degree (MS) in 2005, receiving Gold medals for best performance at both entry and exit exams. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2012 (FRCS Gen Surg). Having undergone higher surgical training in Sri Lanka, Australia and in the UK, he has a diploma in advanced laparoscopic surgery from the University of Strasbourg, France. Mr Halahakoon has also undergone advanced laparoscopy training at the Colchester General Hospital. He is JAG accredited for both gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
