General gynaecology including menstrual disorders, laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, complex open and vaginal surgery, gynaecological ultrasound and fetal medicine.

Academic background

Mr Hassan obtained MD (Doctor in Medicine) in 2001 and pursued Obstetrics & Gynaecology training. His MD thesis researched uterine fibroids and ectopic pregnancies in general gynaecology. He obtained RCOG (Royal College) certificate in advanced benign laparoscopic surgery. Mr Hassan has gained wide experience in gynaecological surgery including laparoscopic, open abdominal and vaginal surgeries.

Mr Hassan has advanced training in Obstetric and Gynaecology ultrasound and fetal medicine from Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrooke’s Hospital). He obtained RCOG and EBCOG (European Board & College of O&G) diplomas in fetal medicine. He has published several papers and abstracts in international peer reviewed journals and acts as reviewer for many international journals. He has presented nationally and internationally. He sits on the RCOG ATSM committee.

Mr Hassan has developed advanced ultrasound techniques for assessment of labour progress and mode of delivery. Also he was the first to publish a method of assessing cervical dilatation during labour by 2D ultrasound and published the Sonopartogram.  He is writing his PhD thesis with the University of Kent in fetal and maternal imaging techniques. Currently he collaborates with Imperial College London in research.

He is the lead consultant at Colchester Hospital for Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Screening, where he is developing the service for the assessment of fetal abnormalities, management of intrauterine growth restriction, 3D/4D ultrasound and invasive testing.
