Academic background

Mr Drake studied medicine at Oxford University and Kings College Hospital School of Medicine in London. He trained in minimal access and laparoscopic surgery at the large teaching hospital in Southampton. He completed a higher training fellowship in cancer surgery at the world renowned St James’s Hospital in Leeds.

He conducted research into the MMR genes that cause cancer of the uterus at Edinburgh University based in the Medical Research Council's Human Genetics Laboratory and is very interested in the prevention and early detection of cancers. He offers accurate balanced advice to women with BRCA or MMR mutations who are at increased inherited risk of ovarian and uterine cancers. He helps women worried about their family history understand if they are at risk and performs tests and surgery to reduce their risk.He has been Clinical Director for Gynaecology at East and North Herts NHS Trust since 2010 and Chairman of the Gynaecology group in the Beds and Herts
