Clinical interests

Helen has specialist interests in squint, eye co-ordination and glaucoma. She uses state-of-the-art technology including computerised vision testing, latest Humphrey Visual Field Analyser, HRT3 laser scanning ophthalmoscopy and Ocular Motility Hess Chart.

Helen is trained in orthoptic assessment and treatment of children with any suspected eye problems and adults with squint or distorted vision, in conjunction with your Consultant Ophthalmologist. This includes occlusion therapy to treat amblyopia (lazyeyesight), eye exercises and prism therapy to improve blurred or double vision, and visual field assessment.

Academic background

Between 1984 and 2006 she was Head Orthoptist for Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust. She trained as an Orthoptist at the prestigious Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London and later worked there as a Glaucoma Technician. 

Helen is actively involved in training medical professionals and research. She presented three papers at the international orthoptic conference in Toronto in June 2012 and chaired the ophthalmic diagnostic session for the UK and Ireland Society for Ophthalmic Professionals in 2012. She is appointed by the DVLA for vision testing, has developed training manuals for the RNIB and has specialist medico- legal experience.
