Academic background

Having qualified as a doctor at St Georges Hospital, London in 1984, Dr McCartney moved to East Surrey Hospital to begin her specialist training in Anaesthesia. In 1996, following terms as a Registrar at St Barts, Greenwich and Broomfield Hospitals, Dr McCartney was appointed as Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain Management.  

In 1996 Dr McCartney became clinical lead of the Pain Clinic at Broomfield Hospital.
