Hand Therapy
Emma obtained a BSC (Hons) in Biomedical Science at King’s College London in 2000 and then qualified with an MSC in Physiotherapy from the University of Essex in 2007. She started hercareer as a static Musculoskeletal physiotherapist for Mid Essex PCT and then completed her junior rotations at Southend University Hospital. This included areas such as Respiratory, Neurology, Paediatrics and Hand Therapy. This lead to her love of Hand therapy and in 2010, Emma obtained a position as a Senior Hand Therapist at the St Andrews Centre for Burns and Plastics, Broomfield Hospital.
Emma joined The Physiotherapy team at Springfield Hospital in 2017, treating both NHS and private patients. She treats a range of conditions and injuries, including Dupuytrens disease, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, DeQuervain’s disease and trigger finger, as well as tendon and nerve repairs.The treatments she offers include wound care and dressing changes after surgery, management of swelling and scars, desensitisation techniques, mobilisations, ultrasound treatment, exercises to improve range and strength and the fabrication of tailor made thermoplastic splints. An important aspect of her role is to provide advice and to educate on hand conditions, injuries and their management.
