Academic Background
Following his training at Charing Cross Hospital and Westminster Medical School, Mr Thilagarajah went on to attain a Master of Surgery Degree at Imperial College School of Medicine, investigating the causes, diagnosis and treatment of painful bladder disease and interstitial cystitis. In 2001, he achieved recognition on the Specialist Register for Urology (CCST), the FRCS (Urol). He then furthered his training as a laparoscopic urological surgeon as Urology Senior Fellow at Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. On return to the UK, he received specialist training in stone surgery at the Institute of Urology at the Middlesex Hospital, before being appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mid Essex Health Services NHS Trust. Mr Thilagarajah was the Clinical Lead in Urology until 2012 and remains the Robotic Surgery Services Clinical Lead for Broomfield Hospital. He assisted in the creation of the Robotic Kidney Service in his role as Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Mr Thilagarajah has also been instrumental in the initiation of the GreenLight laser prostate service at Broomfield Hospital that won an NHS Innovations award in 2005.
