He qualified 1995 in Wuerzburg, having spent part of his final year at the University of Chicago. He did his general surgical training in Nuremberg and Ratingen. His specialist trauma and orthopaedic training was in the university clinic of Bochum and the university clinic of Muenster where he also qualified as a specialist hand surgeon and specialist trauma surgeon. He has worked for more than 5 years at Consultant level in Germany before coming to the UK, latterly in Hamburg at a large level I trauma centre as the lead hand surgeon.
