Rick Majkowski is an experienced orthopaedic and trauma surgeon who has been in consultant practice in this area since 1994. He graduated from the University of Cambridge and the Royal London Hospital in 1981 and undertook higher specialist training in Bristol and Nottingham. In 1990 he was awarded the Sir John Charnley Fellowship for research in joint replacement.
He has developed a particular interest and expertise in primary and revision hip and knee replacement in patients of all age groups. He was the first surgeon in Gloucestershire to perform the Birmingham Hip resurfacing procedure and has performed several hundred of these operations. He is experienced in ceramic-on ceramic hip replacement and unicompartmental knee replacement using minimal access surgery. He has a wealth of experience in arthroscopic knee surgery and more recently has established a hip arthroscopy service for the investigation and treatment of younger patients with hip pain. He will also undertake investigation and treatment of upper limb conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and shoulder pain and lower limb conditions including hallux valgus, moretons neuroma and hammer toe.

Since he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS trust in 1994 he has presented and published research papers on hip and knee replacement.
