Last Friday, Andy McDonald MP for Middlesbrough and Thornaby East visited Tees Valley Hospital in Acklam to meet with staff, patients and doctors, and to learn more about the healthcare services provided to the local community by the hospital.

During the visit, Mr McDonald toured key departments within the hospital and spoke directly with frontline healthcare professionals about their experiences, current pressures, and the vital role the hospital plays in delivering care across Teesside.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss issues including patient access, staffing levels, and future plans for healthcare services in the area.
Tees Valley Hospital plays a crucial role in offering alternative care options for patients in Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool. 90% of the hospital’s activity is provided to patients referred through the NHS, with treatments funded in exactly the same way as at other NHS hospitals and at no additional cost. This collaborative approach helps reduce NHS waiting lists and ensures timely access to vital treatments for local residents.
Opened in 2018, on the Acklam Hall site, the hospital provides elective care in Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Endoscopy, Urology, Gynaecology and Oral Surgery with facilities including outpatient and physiotherapy departments, inpatient and day case wards, 3 theatres, an endoscopy suite and a diagnostic imaging facility including state of the art MRI.
Following a further investment of £7.5M by Ramsay Health Care UK who operates the hospital, works will commence this year to expand the size of the hospital adding an additional theatre and increasing capacity in ward, day care and outpatient areas.
Following the visit Andy McDonald Member of Parliament for Middlesbrough & Thornaby East said:
"I'd like to thank all of the staff I met at Tees Valley Hospital for affording me such a warm welcome. It was a pleasure to meet so many people wholly dedicated to their work and to tour this very impressive facility."
Hospital Director and local resident Sandra Donoghue said:
““We are proud to serve the Teesside community and work in partnership with the NHS to ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care. This visit highlighted the dedication of our staff and the importance of continued investment in local healthcare services. Our upcoming expansion will allow us to treat more patients and further enhance the excellent care we provide every day.””
Hospital management welcomed the visit, highlighting the dedication of staff and the importance of continued investment in local health services.
The visit forms part of Mr McDonald’s ongoing engagement with local healthcare providers and his commitment to championing NHS services and patient care in Parliament.
