Ramsay Health Care Group: History, Expansion, Countries

The Ramsay Group

Ramsay Health Care was established in 1964 and has grown to become a global hospital group operating over 220 hospitals and day surgery facilities across Australia, the United Kingdom and Indonesia. Ramsay Health Care is well-respected in the healthcare industry for operating quality private hospitals and for its excellent record in hospital management and patient care. These features help to attract leading healthcare practitioners to work in our facilities.

Ramsay Health Care is Australia’s largest private hospital operator and a well-recognised brand in the industry. The Company leads the way in developing the role of private healthcare in Australia’s balanced health care system. It is also recognised as a leader in teaching and research with an emphasis in its hospitals on both undergraduate and postgraduate training of the future medical and nursing workforce.

In 2007, Ramsay Health Care realised its offshore expansion plans acquiring Capio UK, the fourth largest operator of private hospitals in the UK. This acquisition will provide a solid platform for growth outside Australia.

Ramsay Health Care facilities cater for a broad range of healthcare needs from day surgery procedures to highly complex surgery, as well as psychiatric care and rehabilitation. With over 8000 beds, the Company employs almost 25,000 staff across three countries.

Ramsay Health Care is extremely proud of the high quality of our staff, our excellent relationships with doctors, our commitment to improvement in all areas and our vision for the future. “The Ramsay Way” culture which recognizes that people – our staff and doctors – are our most important asset, has been key to the Company’s ongoing success.
