After your Gastric Bypass – Patient Guide
Diet and nutritional expectations
Immediately after your gastric bypass surgery you need to allow time for your internal stitches to heal properly and the swelling to calm down. Your digestive system will gradually adjust to a new diet that you will now be eating. Recovery will vary from patient to patient but it can take three to six months for your body to settle totally.
Top tips after Gastric Bypass surgery
Vitamin supplements are essential for gastric bypass patients as most patients don’t get enough through their diet. Even with daily vitamin intake some gastric bypass patients develop a vitamin B12 deficiency. We therefore recommend a vitamin B12 injection every 3 months via your GP.
The risk of a serious medical complication occurring after a gastric bypass is relatively low. However you need to be aware of some symptoms that could occur that require emergency attention. Dumping syndrome is a problem for many people after gastric bypass surgery.
