Academic background

Mr Nick West graduated at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London and spent his basic surgical training at St George’s Hospital.

He was subsequently appointed to the South West Thames Higher Surgical Training Programme, during which time he undertook a period of research both at St George’s and St Mark’s Hospitals, London investigating the chemoprevention of colorectal cancer via the prevention of colorectal polyps; this work was subsequently awarded a MD thesis.

His sub-specialty training in colorectal surgery, with an interest in minimally invasive and laparoscopic techniques, including a post-CCT laparoscopic fellowship, was spent at Frimley Park Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.

Mr West is a member of the Association of Surgeons and Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, a member of the Lower GI Multi Disciplinary Team Meeting at The Royal Marsden Hospital and a member of faculty at the London School of Endoscopy and the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (MATTU), Guildford.
