Mr Mason is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hand and wrist surgery. He has an interest in Dupuytren's contracture, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendon reconstruction and the management of spasticity in the upper limb.

He has also had a strong interest in hand injuries and have established a specialist hand trauma clinic in Gloucester. He performs arthroscopic surgery for the wrist. He strongly believe that much of the improvement from hand surgery relates to the all-important aftercare provided by expert hand therapists. For this reason he maintains a close links with all the hand therapists he works with to ensure that my patients receive the best possible holistic treatment both before and after surgery.

Academic Background

Qualified in Cambridge and undertook my general surgical training in Bath, Bristol and Newport. His Orthopaedic training was in Southampton and at the end of this he had the opportunity to work in Sydney for a year's fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital, a large tertiary referral centre where he gained experience in all aspects of hand surgery. He started as a Consultant in Gloucestershire in 2009. Apart from growing my clinical practice, He has been heavily involved in education, research and management. He has teached on a number of national courses for trainees and am an educational supervisor. He has been the Departmental Director for 3 years. He has been Chief and Principle Investigator for clinical trials and have presented and published widely. He has served on two committees for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, which furthers the practice of hand surgery in the UK.
