Dr David Paling is a Consultant Neurologist.
I am a Consultant Neurologist at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. I am also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sheffield, and I am the Clinical Lead for the world famous Multiple Sclerosis centre, Sheffield as recently featured on BBC Panorama.
As well as clinical interests in multiple sclerosis I am also interested in headaches and run teaching courses on diagnosis and treatment. I am also interested in epilepsy, seizures, blackouts and Parkinson’s disease and I have published peer reviewed articles and chapters on these topics.
I trained at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, where I completed my PhD in MRI imaging in multiple sclerosis. I have also trained at Salford Royal Hospital in Manchester, and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.
I am currently the principle investigator into three drug trials of medications for people with multiple sclerosis, and two observational studies in multiple sclerosis. I supervise a PhD student who is investigating MRI changes in multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease. I am an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield and a lecturer to medical students, and on the MSc in clinical neurology course.
