Academic Background

Mr Chatoo is a Consultant Knee Surgeon based across Hertfordshire and North London. He specialises in Sports Injuries and Arthritic conditions affecting the knee. He provides a comprehensive knee service, adopting a careful approach to clinical decision-making, working closely with radiologists, physiotherapists and allied professionals to offer a holistic approach to the treatment of knee problems. After completing training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Mr Chatoo undertook fellowship training at New York University Medical Centre and was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at East and North Herts NHS Trust in 2003. Over the last 20yrs he has developed the Knee Unit at Lister Hospital which provides a comprehensive service for the management of Sports Injuries of the Knee as well as founding the Knee Osteotomy service at Lister Hospital which is now a Regional Centre for Knee Preservation Surgery. The unit has carried out over 350 Knee Osteotomies over the last 7 years with data collected on these patients prospectively. Mr Chatoo is Faculty on the Basingstoke International Knee Osteotomy Masterclass which is the main Knee Osteotomy Conference that takes place in the UK every year. Mr Chatoo will aim to resolve a knee problem without surgery if possible but If surgery is required, Mr Chatoo performs a wide range of procedures including Arthroscopy, Meniscal Repairs, Knee Ligament reconstructions(ACL) , Knee Preservation Surgery (Femoral and Tibial Osteotomies), Partial and Total Knee Replacement, and Patella realignment and stabilisation. Mr Chatoo carries out the latest keyhole techniques for the management of ACL/cruciate ligament and meniscal/cartilage injuries. He performs the majority of primary and revision ACL/cruciate ligament reconstructions as well as multi ligament reconstructions at the East & North Herts Trust. With regards to Knee Arthritis, Mr Chatoo passionately believes in preserving as much of the knee joint as possible if surgery is required and performs Knee Preserving operations (Knee Osteotomy) in younger patients with Knee Arthritis. Mr Chatoo carries out Partial and Total Knee Replacements for older patients with Knee Arthritis. In his spare time Mr Chatoo is a keen badminton player. He also enjoys playing the piano and writing music.
