Clinical interests

General surgery: management of abdominal hernia (open and laparoscopic surgery), gallstone disease, and 'lumps and bumps'.

Colorpoctology: all aspects of investigation and management of colorectal disease, both benign and malignant. OGD and colonoscopy. Minimally invasive techniques for treatment of haemorrhoids. Laparoscopic surgery for bowel cancer.

Academic background

Mr Richardson has been practicing as an NHS and private Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Chelmsford since 1999. 

He trained at St George's Hospital Medical School in London and graduated in 1986 with MBBS (London). In 1991 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In 1995 he gained a Master of Surgery Degree from the University of London following submission of a thesis studying the potential relationship between the organism mycobacterium paratuberculosis and Crohn's disease in humans.

In 1997 Mr Richardson worked at Flinders University of South Australia as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer.

Since 2011 he has been the Clinical Director for Surgery at Broomfield Hospital.
