Dr Hetherington is an Interventional Cardiologist based at Kettering General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Leicester School of Medicine and has undertaken training in Cardiology at hospitals in Leicester, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Middlesbrough and Dublin, Ireland.
He has broad experience in General Cardiology including the management of angina/ischaemic heart disease, heart failure/cardiomyopathy, hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiac rhythm disorders and valve disease.
Dr Hetherington’s special interest is in the invasive assessment and management of coronary artery disease including coronary angiography, pressure wire and intravascular ultrasound assessment of equivocal coronary stenoses, balloon angioplasty and stenting. He predominantly undertakes angiography and interventions on a day case basis and by the radial artery (wrist) route.
Dr Hetherington is a Geordie living in south-east Leicestershire with his wife and two children. He is an enthusiastic supporter of Gateshead Rugby Club, Newcastle United Football Club and has a passion for motorsport. He enjoys “tinkering” with cars and is trying to modify a road car for track use. Other interests tend to revolve around entertaining his young family.
