Mr Paul Wood is a consultant gynaecologist at the Woodland Hospital specialising in minimal access sugery, management of the menopause and climacteric and cancer diagnostics.

I am an experienced and established Consultant based within Northamptonshire and appointed in 1990 with a general gynaecological practice and a special interest in minimal access laparoscopicand hysteroscopic surgery and colposcopy.
I was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at Leicester University (where I obtained my Doctorate) and have private practising privileges at the Woodland Hospital in Kettering. I have an Honorary NHS Consultant contract at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
I have held senior roles within my previous Trust including that of Associate Medical Director.
Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards - National Bronze Award – 2004- renewed 2009 and 2014.
My medicolegal experience was recognised by an invitation to become a Founding Member of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine in 2008 since when I have been appointed a Fellow. I am also a Founding Member of the Expert Witness Institute and provide expert advice for the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council . I am an Assessor in obstetrics and gynaecology for the National Clinical Advisory Service.
At a national level I have held several positions of responsibility within the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists including Chair of the Oral Assessment Subcommittee for the Part 2 MRCOG examination and chaired the Task and Finish Group to introduce a new Part 3 examination. I remain a Review and Performance Assessor for the College.
I have authored one book, contributed to several chapters in books and have published some 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
I have been Chair of the East Midlands Region Safer Care Programme Board (Patient Safety Lead) and Chair of the South and East Midlands Healthier Together Maternity Clinical Working Group. As a result I have encouraged closer cooperation between providers and improved communications between the County and Regional Groups.
I am currently President of the Birmingham and Midland Obstetric and Gynaecology Society.
