Dermatology is the study and care of skin and hair problems. Our skilled and experienced consultant dermatologists offer local and convenient appointments to diagnose and treat a wide range of skin conditions.

These include common skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, lesions (lumps or bumps on your skin, such as moles, cysts, warts or skin tags) through to more serious skin conditions such as skin cancers.

We provide the latest surgical and non-surgical treatment options depending upon your condition. The excision of skin and lip lesions (benign or malignant) often involves careful minor surgery. Sometimes non-surgical treatments are more appropriate to your needs and include: photo dynamic therapy, cryotherapy and medications such as steroid creams.

We also offer cosmetic facial skin procedures to help improve the aesthetic appearance of your face. These include facial rejuvenation using dermal fillers, skin and facial peels, Dermaroller and laser treatment.

Excision of Skin Lesions

Excision of skin lesions is minor surgery to remove lumps or bumps such as moles, cysts and skin tags. Benign (non-cancerous) skin lesions don’t need to be removed but surgery may be appropriate: if they are painful, troublesome (catch on clothing), unsightly, to diagnose the cause of the lesion, or if the lesion may turn cancerous.

The excision of skin lesions is a quick and straightforward procedure performed under local anaesthetic. It involves cutting out the entire lesion plus a margin of skin around its edge.

Skin lesions are only removed on the NHS if they are causing you significant problems or if they may be cancerous. You’ll usually need to go private to have a skin lesion removed for aesthetic reasons. We understand you may wish to have a skin lesion removed for cosmetic purposes and we offer easy access to this service.

Excision of Malignant Lesions

If you are diagnosed with having a cancerous or malignant lump or bump on your skin, your doctor will recommend that it is removed. Excision of malignant lesions is minor surgery performed under local anaesthetic. The cancerous lesion is removed together with some of the surrounding healthy tissue.

Excision of Lesion on Lip

If you have a lesion on your lip that is cancerous or precancerous it will need to be removed. This can be performed by minor surgery. There are several methods to remove the lesion including:

  • Laser surgery - high-energy beam used to destroy the skin lesion.

  • Cryotherapy - cold liquid (nitrogen) used to freeze and remove the lesion.

  • Curettage - a circular cutting loop instrument used to scrape the skin and remove the lesion.

  • Mohs micrographic surgery - cancer is removed one layer at a time and viewed microscopically for cancer. This method leaves as much healthy tissue as possible, as once a layer is found to be cancer free the surgery is stopped.
